Below all of the above areas are described, as well as other terms you may need to know. There are some quick buttons above if you wish to quickly visit those main areas. You can wander the Monastery to any place you wish, and are welcome to visit the Inner Cloister.
ABBOTS HOUSE: The Abbot is in charge of the Monastery, as the head Monk by community election.
APOLOGIST: A student in this Monastery who is dedicated to the defense of the faith against atheists who seek out false weaknesses in Christianity and point them out to the young Christians who are trained in love rather than spiritual combat. For this reason the Apologists here insist that the love of the Disciple Students is not sufficient to protect a young mind who is still exploring the truth of the faith, and can be easily led astray. This tug and pull between knowledge and love is a healthy spiritual battle ongoing between the students.
CATACOMBS: This is where our community Apologists banish Satan from their Hearts. It is under construction, and will eventually be a place of defense against Atheist attackers, who target the young faithful who have not the experience, knowledge, or direct exposure from the Holy Spirit to protect their faith alone. The Apologists keep most of their writings in the Library.
CLASSROOMS: Although under construction, this will be for guests who have come to stay on retreat.
CHAPTER HOUSE: Here the Monks, Priests, and the Abbot meet each day to discuss community events and needs.
DISCIPLE: A student in this Monastery who follows the path of Christs love. These students can often defend Christianity better than the Apologists through love rather than knowledge. They are able to draw people to the faith more effectively than the talented artisans and writers in among the Scribes. Even the Hermits come to the Disciples for refreshing tips on building their relationship with God.
FORECOURT: The court before the Sanctuary. Only the Monks may dwell here.
GUESTHOUSE: The short term visitors stay here. These visitors are not dedicated to the Monastery in any way other than faith. They may be family members of a Monk, or simply here for a week long retreat. Students and Oblates, however, may stay in the Students Dormitory.
HERMIT: A student of this Monastery who seeks prolonged solitude in the wilderness as a source of spiritual wisdom. Some of these students never return to the world, and instead stay here in the Monastic lands with God. The Monks and Priests seek these experienced Hermits out for their profound knowledge which can be used to interpret the Bible in beautiful and insightful ways. We believe that the Bible is not the only source of God's word, because God is still talking to us. Due to the extensive level of fasting and meditation taken on by Hermits, these monks are considered the most likely to receive divine revelations, also perhaps known as extra-biblical scripture.
HOLY THRONE ROOM: This is a room of great importance. Three thrones sit empty, reserved for the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Twelve empty chairs also sit beneath the thrones for the twelve disciples. In this room you may truly be present with God.
INFIRMARY: The doctor is here if anyone is hurt or sick.
INNER CLOISTER: Here the Monks can be found, and no one else may trespass. Although the Monks will only escort trespassers out, it is God to whom you have trespassed.
JAILHOUSE: Monks, Oblates, and Students may be put here for any offense that is given. The Abbot makes this decision. If the community member refuses to be jailed, which is their right, then they are asked to leave the Monastic Grounds. The Jailhouse is a dark place of solitude, where one can find extreme happiness and closeness with God, or the agonizing misery of empty time.
LAY BROTHER DORMITORY: These are brothers who are not yet fully pledged Brothers. They may be Novices, or perhaps are only temporarily here to help work and serve God anyway they can.
LECTURE THEATRE: Here the Students and Retreat members receive daily wisdom outside where the warmth of God may shine on their faces.
LIBRARY: Here the wisdom of the monks is recorded. Speak to the Librarian and you can be quickly routed to whichever section you wish to read about. Here you will find that the Monastery books are presented in four classes: Scribe, Apologist, Hermit, Disciple.
LOCUTERY: Where the students, guests and monks gather for conversation. It is a large indoor park, where the reflection pool can be found for those seeking spiritual renewal. The Locutery is the central gateway to the four areas of the Monastery.
MEDITATION CHAPEL: This is a small chapel where the Monks can meditate for extended periods. Although this is a formal meditation spot, these sorts of Holy areas are hidden all over the grounds.
MONKS DORMITORY: These are the cells where the Monks pray. When they are not praying or singing in the Sanctuary, they are probably here, alone in their cells, building their relationships with God.
OBLATES: These are community members who are dedicated to the Monastery but live normal lives outside the Monastic grounds. They come by often to assist with work and pray with the Monks. Every day, they keep close watch on the time and pray in their homes or places of work in remote spirit with the Monks during mass. They strive to be like a Monk, thinking of God all day.
REFECTORY: This is the formal gathering place for the community. It is also where the students and guests eat their meals. When it is not meal time, the students spend time at their tables for small group discussions. The Monks also eat here, but they keep to themselves unless approached.
SACRISTY: The Priests keep the items for the mass here.
SANCTUARY: This is where mass is conducted.
SCRIBE: A student of this Monastery who uses works to bring others to Christ. Scribes tend to start off with writings, but quickly evolve into artisans who build spiritual bridges to attract outsiders to the faith. Jesus often referred to scribes in a negative light, so we embrace this religious position of writing and art with great care and love, that we may not fail our Lord as the scribes of the past.
STUDENTS CHAPEL: Sometimes students wish to pray in a more private setting than the larger Sanctuary. Here a student is likely to be alone, especially in the middle of the night when it is silent all around.
STUDENTS DORMITORY: Here the Students and Oblates stay. Their rooms are not private like the Monks cells, as the students are encouraged to explore the Monastic Grounds rather than stay in their dormitory.
WORKSHOP: Here the Monks build or repair whatever they need. Items are also carved or constructed here to be sold. It is an important place of business for the Monks.
